Twelve Days of Volunteering: Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids
Dec. 13: Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids
The Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids, a nonprofit organization that helps children overcome the loss of a parent, is looking for volunteers to help with its Extreme Christmas Makeover.
This year, Yatooma have partnered up with Art Van Furniture to bring Christmas miracles to three different families, providing everything they might need: socks, boots, laptops and mattresses. Each member of the receiving families will receive 50 presents. The Foundation has its families in need fill out wish lists and then three families are selected based on their level of need.
“We are here because we see these families — see them standing outside with holes in their boots, if they have boots, and sleeping on floors,” said Advanced Coordinator, Melinda Keating.
Volunteers are needed in three capacities: wrapping, answering phone calls and unloading the ArtVan truck. Wrapping and receptionist volunteers are needed now through Dec. 22 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Volunteers can work for any length of time wrapping presents though Yatooma needs volunteers to answer phone calls for at least two hours at a time.
Starting at 9 a.m. Dec. 23, volunteers are needed to help offload the Extreme Christmas Makeover gifts at three different households. Arrangements to meet at the scene can be made by calling ahead of time if a volunteer is unable to offload at all three stops.
“Being there really changes your life as a giver and a volunteer,” Keating said.
