Battery Giant opens new store in Macomb Township

Whether you have to power a hearing aid or a Hi-Low, Joe Ventimiglia has the battery.

Ventimiglia opened the newest Battery Giant location in Macomb Township on Sept. 13. Battery Giant is a Michigan-based franchise with several locations in the state including stores in Southfield and Sterling Heights, as well locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

“I wanted to go back into the pizza business, but it was too much work,” said Ventimiglia, a former design engineer who owned a Jet’s Pizza for 14 years.

When looking into franchise opportunities, Ventimiglia chose Battery Giant because: “It’s a Michigan-based, family-owned company.”

Battery Giant carries batteries for more than 100,000 different consumer and professional devices as well as cars, boats, RVs and garden tractors.

As more battery-powered and digital devices come into the marketplace each year, Ventimiglia said, “Within six months, a lot of the big box retailers stop carrying batteries for the camcorders, digital cameras and cell phones they sell. Some cell phone stores don’t even carry replacement batteries; that’s how they get people to buy new phones.”

Ventimiglia added that Battery Giant’s prices on conventional batteries — from AAA to D — are better than those found in drug and grocery stores, and if a specialty battery isn’t in stock, he’s able to get one within a couple of hours.

Battery Giant is an authorized Power Wheels service center and is the only one in a 50-mile radius. It also services home generators, rebuilds battery packs for razors, drills and cordless phones, sells and installs car batteries, handles business accounts, and accepts old batteries for recycling.

“We’ve also started a battery recycling program at several area schools by providing containers for them,” Ventimiglia said.

The new Battery Giant location is at 20761 Hall Road in Macomb Township. Call 586-783-6000 or visit
