Christine Beatty testifies by teleconference in Tamara Greene lawsuit

DETROIT (WXYZ) – The former Chief of Staff for ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick testified she never sent or received emails concerning the murder of stripped Tamara Greene.

Christine Beatty testified by telephone from Atlanta in the Greene family’s civil lawsuit against the city of Detroit.

She was dismissed from the lawsuit last June but agreed to testify.

Beatty told the court she received “tons of email” during her tenure as Kilpatrick’s top administrator.

“Some emails never got looked at,” Beatty said.

She also testified she doesn’t believe she ever deleted email from her sent box.

The city says it can’t produce the email from high-ranking officials, including Beatty and Kilpatrick as ordered by the Federal Judge.

Beatty said she never instructed anyone in the administration to delete or purge email from city-owned computers.

She also told the court she was not aware of any written policy requiring that the computers of top officials be backed up once they leave their positions.

Betty did acknowledge the computer used by then deputy police chief Gary Brown was backed up after he was fired by Kilpatrick.

Greene’s family is suing Kilpatrick and city of Detroit claiming they obstructed the investigation into the murder of Greene in 2003.

Greene is said to danced at the never-proven party at the Manoogian Mansion. She was killed in a drive-by shooting. No one has been charged with her murder.
